The mission of the Wicksburg Volunteer Fire Rescue Department shall be the protection, preservation, and well-being of the health, safety, and property of all persons residing, working, or otherwise within Wicksburg and the surrounding areas. We shall accomplish this mission not only through Emergency medical services, and fire suppression but also through fire prevention and education. We shall maintain a high standard of training and education, act and perform in a safe, courteous, and professional manner, strive to create a strong bond with the community and interact professionally with other departments. As members of this department, we have chosen to be part of a team that takes pride in representing this mission through dedication and integrity. The Wicksburg Volunteer Fire Rescue Department, Inc. was incorporated in December 1976. Wicksburg was the first volunteer fire department in Houston County, Alabama. The only truck the department had was donated by the Alabama Forestry Commission. In 1986 the rescue division was added to the department. Today the department has three class "A" pumpers, a 4300-gallon tanker, a service truck, a brush truck, a portable cascade system, three Advanced Life Support ambulances, and a RescueOne boat. The department has 50 volunteers. The structure of the department is as follows: one Chief, one Assistant Fire Chief, one Assistant EMS Chief, one Secretary, one Treasurer, and three Board of Directors. Our primary coverage area is 52 square miles and has a population of about 6000 people. The department also renders mutual aid to Bay Springs, Hartford, Newton, Clayhatchee, Slocomb, Fort Rucker, and Daleville Fire Departments, and Hartford, Echo, Slocomb, and Daleville Rescue Squads. The department has a mutual aid agreement to assist Farley Nuclear Plant and respond to any other department’s request for help.
